In the villages of northern Vietnam, women have washed their hair with Bồ Kết pods simmered over a fire for over five centuries. Not because it was fashionable. Because it worked.
My grandmother had hair almost two metres long. She never used a shampoo bottle in her life. When I began to struggle with my own scalp, I went back to her rituals — and then went further, asking why they worked.
